Due to a supplemental resource project, most of our speaking availability in 2025 will be virtual only. You can email us here
[If email doesn't open when clicking above link, please right click on it to copy address (or hold down with finger if on mobile) to then paste into your email program.] There is a science or education conference that I like to attend. Can you speak there?
Maybe! We have some information compiled about us here that you can send to a conference organizer to help them determine if we are a good fit. Then, if the conference organizer is interested, we encourage them to email us . [If email doesn't open when clicking above link, please right click on it to copy address (or hold down with finger if on mobile) to then paste into your email program.] What is your fee to speak in-person or virtually at an event?
After contacting us with the details, we can calculate costs of time for presenting and preparation (whether in-person or virtually) and provide an estimate. In addition, if speaking in-person, we calculate hotel and travel costs. We need to be fiscally responsible to support ourselves with our time, but we also strive to keep our costs down as much as possible as speaking is not a major source of revenue for us. What are your speaking topics?
Since we have learned so much by creating (videos, GIFs, comics, etc), we are very passionate about empowering students as creators in the science classroom. Many of our presentations focus on ideas for involving students to create in science. We also love to present about misconceptions in biology and using YouTube in education. You can see more about our speaking topics on the "speaking topics" tab at the top of this page. I am a high school teacher or college professor. Can I invite you to use Zoom or Skype with my class?
We love speaking to high school or college classes on Microsoft Teams or Zoom; however, our availability in 2024 is very limited. We have some availability in December 2024 and January 2025. ------------ Information about Virtual Student Presentations Since we won't have travel costs and the time commitment is usually small (20-30 minutes) without any prep, we don't charge anything for this. This is the sequence of how our virtual talks to students usually go: 1) We start with our story about how we got started. 2) We describe what we learned along the way. 3) We explain how creating has made us enjoy science even more and has helped us reach others. 4) We reserve time for any questions and answers! Here are the steps we suggest to take if you are interested in having us join your class virtually using Zoom (or other conferencing software): 1. Check with your school/university/district administration first as rules about how to proceed can vary around the world. 2. Contact us via email (see below). Note: for high school students that lead a student group/club, we ask that either their teacher/admin sponsor emails us or please have the sponsor Cc'ed on the email request. This is because every school has different rules about external virtual speakers, and this ensures the sponsor can verify that everything works well for their campus. 3. If you don't regularly use virtual conferencing, you may want to ask for assistance from a colleague beforehand who is familiar with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc. 4. Ask students to brainstorm questions ahead of time; they may want to write them down beforehand. Our email.
